Despite its age, Halo 3 still had at least one trick up its sleeve.
By pressing down both of the thumbsticks during the initial loading screen you gain a wider view of the Halo planet, which, if inspected closely has the words ‘Happy Birthday Lauren’ written on it.
One of the reasons why it has taken so long to find is the trick only works on the 25th December.
An elaborate prank? Nope, thanks to the Bungie Mail Sack – a way for fans to communicate with Bungie – it was explained one more easter egg remained undiscovered . In response to a fans question in 2012, Jon Cable had this to say:
There is one Easter egg in Halo 3 that I don’t think anyone has found – I stumbled across it in code a while back. It only happens on a specific day … so good luck.
That’s pretty compelling evidence on its own, however there is more. Subsequently, in response to a mail sack question asking what his proudest moment was, Adrian Perez claimed:
Showing my wife the Easter egg I put in the halo 3 loading screen for her – the one that nobody has found yet.
The easter egg was discovered only recently [by a combination of people], which is quite strange considering December 25th wasn’t recently. One can only assume it also works by changing the 360’s clock to the correct incorrect date.
